The Police have been ordered to record a statement from former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa over a stack of cash that was found at the official residence of the President during mass protests in 2022.
The order was issued by the Fort Magistrate’s Court to the Police Special Crime Division when the case pertaining to the incident was taken up for hearing today.
Following mass protests in July 2022, several anti-government protesters stormed the President’s Official residence in Fort and found nearly Rs. 17.5 million in cash.
The cash was thereafter, counted and handed over to officers of the Fort Police Station by the protesters.
However, the Fort Magistrate’s Court today issued an order to the Police to record a statement from former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in this regard. (NewsWire)
