The Ceylon Electricity Board has requested the Public Utilities Commission’s permission for a 2 hours & 20 minutes power cut as the Water Management Secretariat has restricted the release of water from reservoirs for hydro power generation since expected rainfall not experienced.

Meanwhile, The Public Utilities Commission said that it will not approve any scheduled power cuts till 17 February in order to protect the rights of over 331,000 students sitting for the AL examinations.

“Any such power cuts during this period will be considered unauthorized & illegal” PUCSL chairman Janaka Ratnayake said. (NewsWire)
