The Sri Lanka Police has refuted a report published on the website of a private radio channel claiming that the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has launched investigations into an alleged conspiracy to assassinate President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The Police said in a statement that the news report published today (28) had claimed that a group belonging to a political party in Sri Lanka had conducted a discussion overseas in this regard.
The report had further claimed that the CID has received information that the group was planning on carrying out the assassination attempt within a period of two weeks.
The Police clarified that the CID has not received any such information and has not launched an investigation into any alleged assassination attempt on the President. (NewsWire)
