The 8th consecutive edition of the prestigious SILK Sports Awards was launched on Friday, 10 March at the Hemasiri Fernando Auditorium – Sri Lanka Olympic, to recognise the value of the contribution of the people to sports in Sri Lanka in many ways.
The event will take place on March 20, as SPORTSINFO will recognise and honour the accomplishments and contributions of our athletes in all sports domestic and international levels.

“CHANCE SPORTS SILK Sports Awards 2022” – Sri Lanka’s First Annual Sports Awards for All Sports organized by SPORTSINFO together with the Institute of Sports Management (IOSM) is planned to be held for the 8th consecutive year on 20th March 2023 at 6:00 pm at the BMICH.
The concept of organizing such an event was raised due to the need of admiring and recognizing the true sporting legends and contributors who uplift the sports in Sri Lanka and ensure its future.
The SILK Sports Awards is a powerful initiative to recognize Sri Lankan sports stars & contributors for their efforts in keeping the passion for sports alive in the hearts of millions of Sri Lankan.
Honouring athletes who displayed exceptional talent, determination and dedication throughout the year, the SILK Sports Awards will recognize their contribution from myriad categories in a night of glitz, glamour and celebration of their sporting performances.
Since its inception in 2015, the annual Awards Ceremony celebrates the most remarkable men and women from the field of sports along with the greatest contributors to sports in Sri Lanka throughout the year.
The SILK Sports Awards are chosen following a nominations panel voting process, conducted by leading sports media and related personalities before the eventual winners are chosen by a special panel of jury. The 9-member SILK jury is co-headed by Prof. Rear Admiral Shemal Fernando and Dr. Harsha B. Abeykoon. The awards are given to the top performing sportsmen, women & contributors for the sports in Sri Lanka from the ongoing year, under different categories.
Apart from the main awards, sport excellence awards and sports contribution awards special jury awards will be given to a few sporting personalities across different fields to tribute their sports excellence & major contribution to sports locally and internationally. Each winner receives the SILK Statuette or SILK Medal, with its representation of the striving human form against an engraved representation of the continents.
Not only at the local awards but we also managed to open an international special jury awards category from the previous year’s SILK Sports Awards as well. It was a very successful decision and greatly recognized by the international community since its declaration.

There are 21 sporting personalities will be feted for their achievements during the sporting season 2022. These individuals and organizations have indelibly etched their names in the record books, setting the stage for others to follow.”
