Power & Energy: Minister reveals six key initiatives approved by Cabinet

The approval of the Cabinet of Ministers has been received for six important initiatives, Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera revealed.

Minister Wijesekera said in a Twitter message, that Cabinet approval was obtained on Monday (27) for the following key initiatives:

  1. Retail Licences are to be granted to China’s Sinopec, Australia’s United Petroleum, and RM Parks of USA with Britain’s Shell PLC to operate 150 CPC dealer-operated Fuel Stations each. 
  2. Award contract for electricity Smart Metering for the Dehiwala area.
  3. Commence work on the 1st phase of the 135MW Solar park in Sampur with India’s National Thermal Power Corporation.
  4. Conduct an Asian Development Bank (ADB)-funded feasibility study for Pump Storage.
  5. To sign the MOU for Renewable Energy Cooperation with India.
  6. Gas turbines for Kelanitissa Power Plant for LNG. (NewsWire)
