The government is attempting to introduce new laws to suppress free media in Sri Lanka, opposition leader MP Sajith Premadasa alleged.

MP Premadasa said via a video message that the government was taking steps to suppress media in Sri Lanka under the guise of establishing the Broadcast Regulatory Authority.

Pointing out that this was an attempt to prevent unbiased information from reaching the public, he further stated that the new laws will allow the government to only share information it deems necessary.

MP Sajith Premadasa added that it was essential to defeat such proposed laws that violate the freedom of media and the fundamental rights of the public. (NewsWire)
