A 10-year-old child who was running in support of contestants of a local marathon event has died in Kuda Hettawa area in Galkiriyagama police division.
The child had been running in support of relatives who had participated in a “Run Across the Village” event held as part of an Awurudu Uthsawaya on Saturday morning (22), the police said.
The child had suddenly collapsed while running on the road and had been admitted to the Kalawewa rural hospital. While the child was being transferred to the Anuradhapura Hospital for further treatment, the child had passed away, the police further said.
Galkiriyagama Police are conducting further investigations.
