Five under 30 years killed in separate motorcycle accidents

Five individuals under the age of 30 years have been killed in separate motorcycle accidents reported in various parts of Sri Lanka in the last 24 hours ending at 06.00 am today.

A 21-year-old woman died after the motorcycle she was travelling on skidded due to the rider being unable to control the vehicle. 

The woman who was the pillion rider had succumbed to injuries in the accident reported in the Mawathagama area in Kurunegala yesterday. 

Meanwhile, a 21-year-old woman has died while a 4 ½-year-old child has been injured in a motorcycle accident reported in the Polwatte area in Ambalangoda. 

The accident had occurred after a lorry travelling in the opposite direction had collided with the motorcycling on which the woman and child were travelling. 

The child has been admitted to the Balapitiya Hospital, while the driver of the lorry has been arrested over the accident. 

A 29-year-old resident of Pitakote has died after losing control of his motorcycle and crashing into a car near Jubilee post in Mirihana last morning.

Investigations have revealed that the motorcyclist and pillion rider had been in an argument with a three-wheeler driver after which the pillion rider had climbed onto the three-wheeler and attempted to strangle the driver during which the motorcycle toppled over and crashed into a car.

The motorcyclist who had sustained serious injuries in the accident had died upon admission to the Colombo South Teaching Hospital in Kalubowila.

A 25-year-old youth has died after the motorcycle he was travelling on had toppled over due to losing control of the vehicle in the Eruvan area in the Kodikamam Police Division yesterday.

The deceased has been identified as a resident of Chavakachcheri and a Police officer attached to the Kilinochchi Police Station. 

Also, a 23-year-old female pillion rider has died after a motorcycle had toppled over in the Bataleeya area in Nittambuwa last evening.

The Police stated that the female motorcyclist had lost control of the vehicle after which it had toppled over, while the pillion driver had been run over by a bus travelling in the same direction. 

The injured motorcyclist has been hospitalised, while the driver of the bus has been arrested over the accident. (NewsWire)
