Drone cameras were used to inspect and detect places where dengue mosquitoes can breed in high-rise buildings which cannot be accessed by Public Health Inspectors (PHI).
On Saturday (20), Chemicals containing BTI granules were also sprayed using these drones on the stagnated water where mosquitos can breed in such buildings.
Western Province entomologist Ayesha Sarathchandra said that these insecticides are sprayed in places where the water cannot be removed physically.
After applying these chemicals, even the mosquito larvae are destroyed. In those places, the mosquitoes do not return and lay eggs, she further said.
This program is to be implemented until the current high risk dengue situation in the country subsides.
It has also been planned to deliver drones to every MOH office in Colombo, Kalutara and Gampaha districts on a daily basis.
So far this year, 35,419 dengue cases have been reported. The highest number of patients is reported from Gampaha district with 7,978 patients being reported.
7,411 dengue cases have been reported from Colombo district and 2,121 cases have been reported from Kalutara district so far. (NewsWire)
