Electricity Tariff Revision : Update from Minister

Electricity Tariffs will be revised to be reduced for several sectors from July 01, Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera informed Parliament today.

Minister Wijesekera said that domestic electricity tariffs will be reduced by a minimum of 23% for consumers who use less than 30 units per month.

He further stated, thereby, the domestic electricity charges for the use of between 0-30 units will be reduced from Rs. 30 to Rs. 25.

Meanwhile, the domestic fixed tariff for the same group will be reduced from Rs. 400 to Rs. 250 from July.

Minister Kanchana Wijesekera also stated that electricity tariffs of religious places using between 0- 30 units be reduced by a minimum of 23%.

He added that for the hotel and tourism sectors, electricity tariffs will see a reduction of a minimum of 43% from July. 

The Minister of Power and Energy made the announcement during the debate on the Parliamentary motion to remove Janaka Ratnayake from his post as the Chairman of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) underway in Parliament today. (NewsWire)
