Two youths and a woman have been arrested for having allegedly assaulted and obstructed the duties of a Police officer on Wednesday (May 24).
According to Ada Derana, the suspects were arrested by the Kelaniya Division Criminal Investigations Department (CID).
The Policeman engaged in traffic duty near the Jeyaraj Fernandopulle Bridge in Peliyagoda had halted and inspected a motorcyclist and pillion rider for travelling without a helmet.
A woman who had arrived at the location had engaged in a brawl with the Police officer and had allegedly assaulted the Policeman.
The Police officer, who has been identified as a Constable, has been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital with injuries.
The suspects, residents of Pattiya in Peliyagoda, are aged 51, 20, and 22 years. The group will be produced before the Fort Magistrate’s Court today. (NewsWire)
