A 21-year-old man who was injured after being shot by officers of the traffic division of Akmeemana Police, Galle, was admitted to the Karapitiya Hospital last night (10), the police said.
At about 11:30 pm last night, two officers of the traffic division of the Akmeemana police have stopped two people on a scooter on the southern expressway access road.
Following this, the two men have tried to flee the scene and the pillion of the scooter had tried to attack the police officers with some object, the police further said.
In response to this, one of the police officers had shot the pillion using his official firearm. The police have also arrested the 18-year-old man who was riding the motorcycle at the time.
The injured was later admitted to the Karapitiya Hospital and a hospital spokesperson has said that he was admitted with gunshot wounds to his jaws.
Meanwhile, Galle Division Scene Of Crime Officers (SOCO) have inspected the incident site this morning and found a parcel containing 105 T-56 bullets and a live grenade manufactured in a foreign country.
