Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) buses operating on the Southern expressway commenced operations to four areas without conductors yesterday (June 19).

According to reports, the new system was launched due to complaints of conductors defrauding money from passengers travelling in the said buses.

Thereby, buses departing from the Makumbura Multimodal Transport Centre in Kottawa to Galle, Matara, Embilipitiya, and Tangalle will travel without conductors.

Bus tickets will be issued by conductors at Makumbura Multimodal Transport Centre after which the bus will depart with only a driver.

It is also reported that the revenue of the Ruhunu Bus Company belonging to the SLTB, on the first day without a conductor, has increased by Rs. 1 million compared to other days. (NewsWire)
