Sri Lanka has reported an increase in workers’ remittances for the month of June, recording US$ 476 million as of June 23, 2023.
Minister of Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakkara stated that it was a significant increase from the US $274.3 million reported during the same period in 2022.
Taking to Twitter, Minister Nanayakkara further stated that total remittances up to June 23, 2023, stands at US$ 2823.3 million.
“Great to see an increase from last year but we’re still slightly below 2021 levels. Let’s keep supporting our hardworking global community #Remittances,” he added.
Sri Lanka reportedly received US $ 480 million in foreign employment remittance in the month of May, while the total remittance received by Sri Lankans working overseas has reached $ 2,347 billion by 23 June, it is learnt.
Earlier, in April 2023, Sri Lankan migrant workers’ foreign remittances increased to US$ 454.0 million from the US$ 248.9 million reported in April 2022. (NewsWire)
