Police say that a six-year-old child has drowned while swimming in the Sea east of Vadamarachi, Jaffna.
Police further said that the deceased child is a resident of London, England and he had recently returned to the country with his parents to attend a relative’s funeral.
Initial investigations have revealed that the mother and father left the child at a relative’s house to attend the funeral, where the accident took place.
The police said that the relative’s house where the child was staying is located by near the sea and the child had gone to swim in the sea without informing anyone.
Local residents have intervened to save the child and he died on admission to Maradankeni Hospital, Jaffna.
