Five suspects have been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake for attempting to smuggle out gold from Sri Lanka.
According to Sri Lanka Customs, the suspects were arrested at the departure terminal of the BIA with 8.65kg of gold.
The suspects are reported to have attempted to smuggle out the gold in gel and dust form.
The Sri Lanka Customs stated that the value of the stash is estimated to be around Rs.164 million. (NewsWire)
