Health sector : Three key decisions announced by President

Following three key decisions have been taken during President Ranil Wickremesinghe meeting with Health Authorities.

  • During a meeting to discuss issues pertaining to the health sector, President Ranil Wickremesinghe said the Health Ministry must ensure there is no delay in people getting drugs & transparency is required for all available drugs in Sri Lanka. He said web sites run by the Health Ministry must give the total amount of drugs available & the amount available in each hospital daily. The networking system will enable the exchange of drugs between hospitals
  • President Ranil Wickremesinghe said that in the recruitment of nurses, regulations should be changed to accommodate those qualified in art subjects to also be considered for training
  • Based on a report submitted by the Cabinet appointed sub-committee, President Wickremesinghe instructed the Health Minister & Officials to extend the retirement age for doctors to 63 years until the end of 2024 & for other special cases as per the requirement of the Health Ministry
