A wanted suspect has been killed in a shootout with the Police in the Horompella area in Minuwangoda.
The Police stated that a team of Police Special Task Force personnel had been dispatched to the area last night to apprehend a suspect wanted over a murder.
As the STF officers had attempted to arrest the suspect, he is reported to have opened fire at the officers using a T-56 firearm.
The officers had opened fire in retaliation injuring the suspect, who was pronounced dead upon admission to the Minuwangoda Hospital.
According to Ada Derana, the Police stated that the deceased is 29 years old and has been identified as a shooter of an underworld gang.
The deceased is also the chief suspect in a shooting incident that was reported in Homagama recently.
The Police STF and Minuwangoda Police are conducting investigations into the incident. (NewsWire)
