French President Emmanuel Macron is reportedly set to undertake an official visit to Sri Lanka later this week, French Media reported.

As per the reports, President Emmanuel Macron will visit Sri Lanka from Friday (28) night to Saturday (29) morning on his return from Papua New Guinea.

This historic visit, which is the first by a French President to Sri Lanka, has not been announced in advance by the Presidency of the Republic.

French President Emmanuel Macron will first travel to the southwest Pacific this week, in a “historic” visit designed to bolster his Indo-Pacific strategy and reaffirm France’s role in the region.

The five-day visit begins on 24 July in the French archipelago of New Caledonia, followed by stops in Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea.

Thereafter, President Emmanuel Macron is expected to make a short stop at Sri Lanka.

President Emmanuel Macron last engaged in a cordial conversation with Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe during the Head of State session of the Conference for a New Global Financial Agreement held in Paris in June.

France is also part of the group of countries that announced a common platform for talks among bilateral creditors to coordinate the restructuring of Sri Lanka’s debt. (NewsWire)
