Six suspects have been arrested by the Police Narcotics Bureau for the possession of drugs worth Rs. 1 billion.
According to the Police Media Unit, three of the suspects were initially arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake with 30 kilos of synthetic cannabis.
Based on information from them, the other three suspects were arrested in the Pettah and Wellawatte areas.
The suspects were found to have 100 kilos of ‘Amphetamine’ used to produce ‘ICE’ narcotics.
Police Narcotics Bureau officials had found the synthetic cannabis when inspecting an air cargo consignment that had arrived at the BIA from Hong Kong via Dubai.
Three suspects who had arrived to claim the air cargo were apprehended after which based on information retrieved from them the other three suspects were arrested.
The Police Narcotics Bureau has obtained a detention order against the suspects after producing the suspects in court. (NewsWire)
