Journalist Tharindu Uduwaragedara has been arrested in connection to the protest held in the Wanathamulla area in Borella today.

The protest was conducted by a collective of unions against International Monetary Fund (IMF) related proposals.

The Police fired tear gas and water cannons to disperse the protesters after the demonstration turned violent.

“Tharindu Uduwaragedara who was arrested and assaulted by the police and now being held in the custody of the Borella Police is a brave web journalist who has not been frightened to speak out against the corrupt and powerful responsible for the sorry state of our country. His arrest and ill-treatment is another example of the abuse of power by the Sri Lankan Police and the Government” Bar Association Former President Saliya Peiris said.
