X-Press Pearl owners agree to compensate: amount revealed

Justice Minister Wijesdasa Rajapakshe has said that the owners of the X-Press Pearl ship which drowned in the seas off Sri Lanka have agreed to compensate by paying a sum of Rs. 301 Million for the environmental damage cause by the fire.

According to the Justice Minister, the company has agreed to pay the compensation as USD 878,000 and LKR 16 Million.

The Justice Minister has further said that the compensation money will be distributed among the fishermen who were affected by the ship fire. (NewsWire)
