AKD meets Top UN officials, briefs country’s situation

Leader of the National Peoples Power (NPP) MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake held a discussion with the Permanent Resident Representative of the United Nations to Sri Lanka, Marc-Andre Franch today (Aug. 29).

Taking to ‘X’, MP Dissanayake stated that the meeting took place this morning at the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna’s (JVP) head office. 

Peace and Development Adviser at the Office of the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Sri Lanka, Edward Rees and National Executive Member for the National People’s Power, Bimal Ratnayake also participated in the meeting.

MP Dissanayake stated that the discussion focused on the current economic crisis and political situation in Sri Lanka. 

The NPP leader pointed out that the people are being further oppressed due to the failure of the government’s economic goals, adding that the government was taking away the people’s democratic rights by not holding elections. 

“We pointed out that the government is acting undemocratically by threatening to summon the judges who ordered the elections to the Parliament’s Privileges Committee and suppressing people’s protests,” he added. (NewsWire)
