Bangladesh have almost qualified for the Asia Cup Super 4 round after beating Afghanistan by 89 runs in Lahore.
Afghanistan will now require a big win against Sri Lanka in Lahore on Tuesday if they’re to qualify to the next round.
Sri Lanka can still qualify even if Afghanistan beat Sri Lanka on Tuesday, but they need to make sure it’s not a heavy defeat.
“Bangladesh have qualified for the Super Four stage. For Afghanistan to qualify, they will need to beat Sri Lanka by approximately 70 runs or chase in approximately 36 overs” Cricket Statistian Mazher Arshad tweeted.
“if SL lose tomorrow by a small margin they remain above Bangladesh but Afghanistan can’t go above Bangladesh. If Afghanistan win heavy to qualify, they may end up going above Bangladesh’s NRR but they will impact SL’s NRR so heavily that it will go below Bangladesh’s. Basically, there is no scenario where BOTH Afghanistan and SL can end on a high NRR than Bangladesh” Cricinfo reported.
