Opposition Leader MP Sajith Premadasa has requested the government to investigate certain directives issued by former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, during his tenure as the President, linked to the 2019 Easter Sunday terror attacks.

Addressing the Parliament on Friday (Sep 22), MP Premadasa said that thirty-one (31) officers of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) involved in the investigations into the Easter attacks had been issued sudden transfers on the directive of former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

MP Premadasa further revealed that travel bans had also been imposed on at least 700 officers attached to the CID at the time on the directive of the former President.

Stating there are suspicions with regard to these directives, the Opposition Leader called on the government to conduct an investigation in this regard.

MP Premadasa stressed that an international investigation is required in this regard as the domestic efforts to find out the truth about the attacks are riddled with corruption.

The Opposition Leader also pointed out that the master-mind of the Easter attacks Zaharan had closely associated with a State Intelligence official, adding that it was a threat to national security.

He also requested for an investigation into the fact that the higher authorities have been informed not to question this officer. (NewsWire)
