The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory for severe lightning in 19 districts effective between 2:00 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. today.
As per the department’s weather forecast, Red Alerts have been issued to 19 districts, while Amber Alerts have been issued to 06 districts.
Accordingly, thundershowers accompanied by severe lightning are likely to occur at several places in the Northern, North-central, North-western, Eastern, Uva and Southern provinces and in the Kandy district during the afternoon or night.
There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers, the department added.
The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity. (NewsWire)
