Weather forecast for today (Oct 24) –
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in most provinces of Sri Lanka after 01.00 p.m. today. Fairly heavy showers of about 75mm are likely at some places in the Central, Sabaragamuwa and Uva provinces. Showers may occur in the Western, Southern and Eastern provinces in the morning.
Forecast for sea areas-
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Pottuvil via Colombo, Galle and Hambantota. Winds will be south-westerly or variable in direction and wind speed will be 20-30 kmph. The sea areas around the island will be slight. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
Flood situation –
Minor floods have been reported in the Thalgahagoda and Panadugama areas due to a rise in the water level of the Nilwala River. The Irrigation Department says, however, the water level is receding in the Panadugama area. Flood warnings have been issued to the Millakanda area near Kalu Ganga, the Beddegama area near Gin Ganga, and the Dunamale area near Attanugalla Oya. (NewsWire)
