Tamil National Alliance (TNA) MP M.A. Sumanthiran has questioned the Sri Lanka Police’s lack of action against Ven. Mangalaramaya Ampitiya Sumana Thera for allegedly making threatening statements against the Tamil community.

In a letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), MP Sumanthiran said Ven. Sumana Thera has made several public statements in this regard in recent days.

“Ven. Sumana Thera has repeatedly attacked TNA Batticaloa District MP Shanakiyan Rasamanickam and has also gone on to explicitly threaten all the Tamils living in the South, stating that he will cut them to pieces,” MP Sumanthiran pointed out.

Emphasizing that Ven. Sumana Thera’s statements are aimed at inciting violence and racial and religious hatred in the country, MP Sumanthiran questioned why the Police have not taken immediate action against Ven. Sumana Thera.

Referring to a video of Ven. Sumana Thera’s statement, Tamil Progressive Alliance (TPA) Leader MP Mano Ganesan also accused Ven. Sumana Thera of inciting racial hatred and violence.

“If he has an issue with the MP of the area & Municipal Commissioner, there are channels to address such grievances. But here he’s inciting racial hatred & violence. This is unacceptable & disgusting. While Vap Poya is two days away, Ven. #Ampitiya #Sumanarathana Thero says ”..If not every Tamil person will be cut & killed. We will cut every Tamil in the south & die”. Isn’t this in clear breach of ICCPR Act Section 3? Over to Mr. President!” MP Ganesan said, taking to ‘X’. (NewsWire)
