Weather forecast for today :
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in most provinces of Sri Lanka after 02.00 p.m. today. Fairly heavy showers above 75 mm are likely at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and Uva provinces. Showers will occur in the Eastern province and in the Hambantota district in the morning too.
Weather forecast for sea areas :
Showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Batticaloa via Colombo, Galle, Matara and Hambantota, particularly during the afternoon or night. Winds will be Northeasterly or variable in direction and wind speed will be 20-25 kmph. The sea areas around the island will be slight. Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers.
Earth slip :
The Halthota Road has been blocked from the Nawanaliya area due to an earth slip in Balangoda. The Disaster Management Centre has requested motorists to be vigilant and use alternative routes. (NewsWire)
