The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has disconnected the electricity supply of over 500,000 customers as of October this year due to the failure to settle their outstanding payments.

According to the Sunday Times, CEB Media Spokesman Eng. Noel Priyantha said the measures were taken due to non-payment of bills as of October 2023.

Noel Priyantha explained that consumers are provided a 30-day credit period usage along with approximately 10 days’ notice, after which their connection is disconnected.

He further stated that the electricity disconnections have been carried out in line with the various regulations of the CEB, adding that the connection will be restored once the customer settles the outstanding payments.

The Ceylon Electricity Board has revised electricity tariffs three times over the last year as cost-cutting measures. (NewsWire)
