Two individuals have been arrested over separate cases of smuggled goods, including narcotics, detected by the Sri Lanka Customs.

A 32-year-old person has been arrested at the Katunayake Airport while attempting to smuggle in 06 kilos of liquid gold.

The seized 06 kilos of liquid gold is worth over Rs.110 million, while the suspect had been arrested by Airport Customs officials at the airport.

Meanwhile, one person has been arrested while attempting to clear a parcel containing 06 kilos of Kush valued at Rs. 60 million sent from Canada.

Sri Lanka Customs officials said the suspect was arrested at the Orugodawatta Customs inspection terminal today.

The Sri Lanka Customs is reported to have taken into custody nearly 50 kilos of narcotics within the last three months.

State Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya told reporters that narcotics such as Kush and Hashish were among the seized contraband.

The State Minister visited the Sri Lanka Customs warehouse in Orugodawatte today to inspect a stock of Kush that was found inside a container that had been imported from Canada recently.

Customs officials had seized the container that had arrived from Canada on October 25, on suspicion, after which inspections had revealed 6 kilos of Kush worth Rs. 60 million inside the container.

Previously, the Customs had seized 35 kilos of Hashish that had been illegally imported from Italy and 10.5 kilos of Kush that had been imported from the U.S. (NewsWire)
