Three suspects have been arrested over the 10.5 kg of heroin, found concealed in a stock of towels, that were seized by the Sri Lanka Customs.
It was reported that the stock of heroin, which had been packed in eight separate parcels, was sent from Lahore, Pakistan to Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka Customs said that the heroin, valued at Rs. 270 Million, was imported under the name of a business operating from Thihariya.
It was detected by Customs personnel attached to the Drug Control Unit and the Cargo Terminal at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake.
Sri Lanka Customs further said that the importer and two wharf clerks who had arrived to clear the cargo had been apprehended.
The Police Narcotic Bureau has taken custody of the suspects and the contraband to conduct investigations into the matter. (NewsWire)
