Israel- Palestine conflict : Calls to extend truce grow as captives released

  • Israel says 17 hostages have been released by Hamas on the third day of the truce. The 14 Israeli and three foreign hostages have been transferred to the Red Cross.
  • A total of 39 Palestinian prisoners have been released by Israel, the third batch, and were greeted by celebrations in the occupied West Bank.
  • Officials say 3,200 Palestinians have been arrested since October 7.
  • Deadly raids continue, as at least six Palestinians have been killed in Israeli raids in the occupied West Bank since last night.
  • The exchange on the second day of the four-day truce was delayed for hours over Hamas’s allegations that Israel was violating the truce deal.
  • Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has visited troops in Gaza. As well as talking to soldiers and commanders, he saw a tunnel that had been uncovered, an official statement said.
  • Egypt, Qatar and the US are pressing for the truce to be extended beyond Monday, while PM Netanyahu addressing Israeli forces in Gaza, said, “Nothing will stop us.”
  • PM Netanyahu also told US President Joe Biden he would extend the temporary truce by one day for each further 10 captives released.
  • More than 14,800 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since October 7. In Israel, the official death toll stands at 1,200. (Sky News / Al Jazeera)
