Former Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe has responded to allegations by President Ranil Wickremesinghe alleging that the former had met with Indian representatives pertaining to Sri Lanka’s cricket crisis along with the Opposition Leader

Addressing the Parliament today (Nov 28), MP Ranasinghe said that a press release from the President’s Office issued to the media claims that he had met the Opposition Leader and a group of Indian representatives over the cricket crisis.

“I was invited by the Opposition Leader for a discussion. Upon arriving there, I noticed the presence of the Indian High Commission. At the meeting, the Opposition Leader informed that the name of Jay Shah, the Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will be named by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) in this crisis,” he said.

MP Ranasinghe further said the Opposition leader had informed him that the representatives of the BCCI, including Jay Shah have no objections to working with the Interim Committee or even the Cabinet Sub-Committee to help resolve this crisis.

The Opposition Leader further questioned if there was any issue with the BCCI or ICC representatives working with the Interim Committee or even the Cabinet Sub-Committee to help resolve this crisis, the MP revealed.

Stating that that was all that was discussed at the meeting with the Opposition Leader, the former Sports Minister said that it is regrettable to see him face such a situation just for having exposed corruption in the sport of cricket.

MP Roshan Ranasinghe also assured that he would remain as a Government MP and would not join with the Opposition, as he was elected from the mandate of 6.9 million people who had voted for the government. (NewsWire)
