The inaugural tour of the Ravana’s Nature Odyssey Double Decker bus was hindered following a protest by the public in Ella Town on Wednesday (Nov 29).

The Ravana’s Nature Odyssey Double Decker bus, which was to be launched by the owner of a hotel in the area to carry out specified day tours for tourists visiting Ella, was inaugurated yesterday.

However, as the bus reached Ella Town it was blocked by the public in Ella, including drivers of three-wheelers, vans, and cars, who operate taxi services in the area for a daily wage.

A tense situation was reported between the protesters and officers from the Ella Police after they attempted to disperse the crowd.

The protesters pointed out that the Ravana’s Nature Odyssey Double Decker bus severely affects their livelihoods, as tourists will resort to the bus service and not other taxi services, affecting their daily wages.

The operations of the Ravana’s Nature Odyssey Double Decker bus were temporarily suspended after the Police intervened and agreed to find a solution to the issue.

The Ravana’s Nature Odyssey Double Decker Day Tour offers tourists an experience of Ella’s most iconic natural attractions.

The tour starts from the heart of Ella and covers Ravana Falls, Secret Waterfall, Ella Wala Waterfall, Alikota Ara Reservoir, Wellawaya Paddy Fields, Diyaluma Waterfall, Beragala-Haputale Scenic View, and Kelibedde Tea Factory. (NewsWire)
