The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has issued a clarification on the news report published on the issuance of Red notices to over 5 million consumers, pointing out that the disconnection rate is not unusual compared to pre-Covid years.

Issuing a statement, the CEB assured that the disconnections reported this year are normal.

The CEB further said the electricity bill must be paid after one month of electricity consumption and a majority of consumers pay their electricity bills on time.

Stating that usually a red bill is given after one month, the CEB further said that in addition to that, a grace period of 10 days is given after red bills are issued, following which consumers are informed of the electricity being disconnected.

The CEB revealed that 544,488 disconnections and power reconnections have been made in the first 10 months of this year. (NewsWire)
