Batticaloa District MP Ali Zahir Moulana has called for better sports facilities for outstation schools, stating there is plenty of promise outside of Colombo.
MP Moulana’s comment comes after Alighar Central College of Eravur emerged as the National Champions in the ‘Ball Blaster Challenge Trophy 2023’, a 1st XI Division Schools Football tournament.
Sharing snippets on the victory of his alma mater on ‘X’, MP Moulana said it was a very proud day for Eravur and Batticaloa.
“An unimaginable feat for a small-town school with minimal facilities and infrastructure to defeat top urban schools with the best facilities at their disposal,” MP Moulana said, sharing a photo of the team’s practice ground.
Stating that this game goes to show that there is plenty of promise outside of Colombo, MP Moulana said, “We only have to invest into and create the enabling environment and leave the rest up to them.”
MP Ali Zahir Moulana also brought his concerns and the capability of the Eravur team to the attention of the newly appointed Sports Minister Harin Fernando. (NewsWire)
