The United National Party (UNP) has decided to field President and Party Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe as the UNP’s National Candidate for the upcoming Presidential polls, it was reported.
According to Lankadeepa, the decision was taken during a meeting of the UNP Management Committee held in Colombo on Tuesday (Jan 09).
The UNP Management Committee has also reportedly agreed to hold the Presidential Election in September this year, and subsequently the General Election.
Lankadeepa further reported that the UNP Management Committee convened under the patronage of President Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday and was attended by UNP higher-ups such as Deputy Leader Ruwan Wijewardena and Chairman Vajira Abeywardena. (NewsWire)
