Leader of the National Peoples Power (NPP) MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake slammed the government, including President Ranil Wickremesinghe, over unwanted expenses to the government at a time when the country was facing economic difficulties.

Addressing the Parliament today (Jan 12), MP Dissanayake questioned the need for the President to undertake nearly 14 overseas tours in 14 months.

Stating that this was being done at a time when the government was preaching about cost-cutting, MP Dissanayake questioned why the President was not adhering to it first.

“The President is nicely touring overseas, attending funerals and weddings. He is also provided an ambulance even to travel from the Presidential Secretariat to the Parliament, at a time when several hospitals are short of ambulances,” he pointed out.

The NPP Leader further questioned how MP Namal Rajapaksa, the son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, has been allowed to stay at official government quarters.

“The entire family from son to uncles are all staying at government quarters. This is being provided at the expense of the government,” he said.

Calling out the government for preaching about cost-cutting while incurring unnecessary expenditures and imposing various taxes, the NPP Leader questioned when they intend to halt such behaviour. (NewsWire)
