Visiting Japanese Finance Minister undertakes inspection tour of BIA

Japan’s Finance Minister Suzuki Shunichi participated in an inspection tour of the construction site of Terminal 2 of the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake. 

Minister Shunichi arrived in Sri Lanka on Thursday (Jan 11) on a two-day official visit and was warmly received at the BIA.

According to the Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) Ltd (AASL), Minister Shunichi and the delegation visited the airport with Sri Lanka’s State Minister of Defence Premitha Bandara Tennakoon and the Chairman of the AASL Eng. Athula Galketiya. 

During this visit, the Finance Minister had discussions with senior officials on the current status of the BIA development project and the future of the project. 

The Chairman of the AASL extended his gratitude to the Japanese government and the people of Japan for their collaboration and financial support for the development of Katunayake Airport.

Athula Galketiya also highlighted the readiness of the institution to resume the project.

Meanwhile, during his visit, the Japanese Finance Minister is scheduled to have official discussions with President Ranil Wickremesinghe and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Sabry.

Minister Suzuki and the delegation are also expected to visit the Parliament, Jayawardena Centre, Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital, Colombo Dockyard and Lanka Nippon Biztec Institute in Maharagama. (NewsWire)
