MI-17 Helicopter accident in CAR: Update from Govt

Sri Lanka Defence Ministry has strongly refuted allegations that a Sri Lanka Air Force crew was taken hostage by Al-Shabab group in Somalia.

“SLAF helicopter on Peacekeeping duties in Central African Republic made a crash landing due to adverse weather, and its 5-member crew are safe” Sri Lanka Defence Ministry said.

Meanwhile, The Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) has issued an update on the incident of an MI-17 helicopter of the Sri Lankan Air Force crash-landing in the Central African Republic on Friday (12)

Issuing a notice, SLAF media spokesperson group captain Dushan Wijesinghe has said that an investigation panel has been appointed to look in to that accident on the directives of commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksha.

One of the 3 MI-17 helicopters of the Sri Lankan Air Force currently in operation for UN peacekeeping mission, crash-land near Bria, Central African Republic on Friday morning. 5 crew members inside the helicopter were unharmed while the helicopter sustained damages. (NewsWire)
