A former Police Constable has been sentenced to 40 years of rigorous imprisonment on charges of having sexually abused a 09-year-old girl.
The accused was found guilty of having sexually abused the minor on two occasions and was sentenced by Kandy High Court justice Dharshika Wimalasiri on Tuesday (Jan 23).
The justice sentenced the accused to 20 years of imprisonment per charge and that the 40-year sentence should be served concurrently in 20 years
The former Police Constable was also ordered to pay Rs. 500,000 as compensation to the victim.
In case of failure to pay the compensation amount, the accused will be sentenced to another two years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 25,000.
The former Police Constable is accused of having sexually abused the child in 2017 in the Ududumbara area in Kandy. (NewsWire)
