Two suspects have been arrested over the shooting incident reported in the Sedawatte area in Grandpass in December last year.
Two unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle had opened fire at another person in Sedawatte, Grandpass on 31st December 2023, killing the victim.
Following investigations launched by the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD), one suspect was arrested along with a motorcycle on Ferguson Road in Colombo on Saturday (Jan 27).
The Police said the suspect was a 23-year-old resident of Kamburupitiya and had confessed to operating as the rider of the motorcycle at the time of the shooting.
He had further confessed that the motorcycle used in the shooting had been stolen, and the firearm used in the incident had been obtained from an individual from Wellampitiya.
The Police had thereafter, arrested a 22-year-old suspect from Welewatte in Wellampitiya for aiding the shooting by providing the firearm to the suspects and for the possession of an unauthorized weapon.
The Police had also taken into custody a pistol-type firearm, a magazine, three live bullets, and a mobile phone from the possession of the suspect.
