Opposition Leader MP Sajith Premadasa has accused the government of making Sri Lanka an auction land.

MP Premadasa revealed that 17 acres of land belonging to the Southern Plywood Corporation in Gintota, Galle has been granted to a businessman for a sum of Rs. 8.2 million as a freehold land.

He further pointed out that the businessman, in turn, has auctioned the land, at a time when the matter was being debated at the Parliamentary Advisory Committee.

“Ministers will laugh and say that they will sell each land. The national resources belonging to the citizens and children of the country have been auctioned. Selling the country’s resources in this way is a huge tragedy,” he said.

The Opposition Leader made the remarks while donating a smart classroom to the Elapatha Maha Vidyalaya in Nivithigala, Ratnapura on Tuesday (Feb 13).

The smart classroom worth Rs. 1 million was provided to the school under the 94th phase of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya’s smart classroom donation programme. (NewsWire)
