President Ranil Wickremesinghe has announced plans to provide certain exemptions from Value Added Tax (VAT).
The President said he hopes to remove school exercise books, stationery and equipment from VAT.
He further said that he also hopes to remove medicines and medical equipment from VAT.
The Value Added Tax was increased to 18% with effect from January this year.
