Gifts made using currency notes : Warning from CBSL

The public has been warned against the wilful mutilation or defacement of Sri Lankan currency notes.

Issuing a notice, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) said it has been observed that currency notes are being used to prepare ornaments and gift items with such activities being promoted on social media. 

The CBSL warned that any form of mutilation or defacement of the currency note from its original form is a punishable offence.

The Central Bank added that those found guilty are liable to a fine of Rs. 25 million or imprisonment of a maximum of three years. (NewsWire)
