Five Police Officers, including the Officers-in-Charge of the Horowpathana and Kebithigollewa Police, have extended their apologies by bowing to five persons, including a teacher and a Development Assistant Officer, it was reported.

According to Mawbima, the Police officers had extended their apologies in this manner at the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka on Monday (Apr 01).

The Police Officers had pleaded guilty to arresting and detaining the five individuals alleging links to the mastermind of the 2019 Easter attacks Zahran Hashim and for remanding them over several other unfounded accusations.

The five accused had filed a petition with the Supreme Court seeking an order that their fundamental rights had been violated by their arrest, detention and remanding by the said Police officers.

When the petition was taken up for hearing yesterday, based on an agreement between both parties, the Police Officers extended their apology.

However, two other accused had refused to come to an agreement, due to which the case was postponed until September 11. (NewsWire)
