Court updates on Kottu case & Social media song

The Colombo and Kuliyapitiya courts have issued verdicts on two controversial incidents that occurred in Sri Lanka recently. 

The street food vendor who was arrested for allegedly intimidating and harassing a foreign tourist at Aluth Kade in Colombo has been released on bail. 

The suspect, a resident of Colombo 12, was arrested for having intimidated the tourist after the latter had questioned his pricing for a Kottu Rotti. 

Produced before the Colombo Magistarte’s Court today, the street food vendor was ordered to be released on a bail of Rs. 50,000 and a surety of Rs. 1 million.

Meanwhile, a 31-year-old Excise officer from Wariyapola who was arrested for singing and sharing a distorted version of Rohana Beddage’s Soorya Mangalya New Year song on social media has been remanded. 

The suspect, who was arrested yesterday, was remanded until April 22 by the Kuliyapitiya Magistrate’s Court today. (Newswire)
