Weather : Afternoon showers expected in some areas today

Showers are expected in some parts of Sri Lanka, mostly after 02.00 pm today, according to the Department of Meteorology.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-western provinces and the Galle, Matara and Mannar districts after 2.00 p.m. 

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and Galle and Matara districts during the morning.

Meanwhile, showers or thundershowers will occur at a few places in the sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Matara via Puttalam, Colombo and Galle in the evening or night.

Winds will be southwesterly or variable and wind speed will be 20-30 kmph. Wind speed may increase up to 40-45 kmph at times in the sea areas off the coasts extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Trincomalee to Pottuvil via Batticaloa. 

The sea areas off the coasts extending from Puttalam to Kankasanthurai via Mannar and from Trincomalee to Pottuvil via Batticaloa can be fairly rough at times. The other sea areas around the island will be slight. 

Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thundershowers. (Newswire)
