Darrsh Clarke from Perth has embraced his Sri Lankan heritage by displaying a Sri Lankan Tamil home meal at Australia’s cooking competition, ‘MasterChef Australia’.

Since his participation in the competition, for the first time, Darrsh showcased his Sri Lankan heritage by presenting a Brinjal/eggplant curry with Basmati Rice and yoghurt raita.

Upon inquiry by the judges as to why he had never before presented Sri Lankan food, Darssh revealed that growing up he had rejected his Sri Lankan heritage to fit in.

Encouraging him, Judge Poh Ling Yeow shared that MasterChef Australia is an amazing gift that helps many reclaim their heritage, which she had personally experienced.

According to Australian media, Darrsh’s cooking style is heavily influenced by his late father, a chef at an Indian restaurant, and his Sri Lankan grandmother, who introduced him to his love of baking.

He is the second person of Sri Lankan origin to participate in this season of ‘MasterChef Australia’, taking Sri Lankan food to the international stage.

Earlier, Savindri Perera of Sri Lankan origin presented the traditional Sri Lankan dish ‘Kiribath’ at the Australian cooking competition, gaining praise from the judges. (Newswire)
